August 2020 Whenever we are at the Erlangen Eye Clinic for an examination, we eat at noon in the “Alter Simpl”. The food is always excellent and the lunch menu is quite inexpensive. The service extremely nice and helpful. You sit in the outside area, nice and quiet. One can only recommend the restaurant.

Always nice with Conny, Marc and team! Especially in the afternoons you sit comfortably outside and inside and it is not too crowded. Special greetings to the "male Dani"

Slept in Erlangen on the way to Austria and found a great meal. The restaurant is really "Oberhammer" ...! Fresh, perfectly seasoned, very nice service ... Goulash soup is simply a dream! Everything great!

Was a lot better in the past .. If you are hungry, you should go to eat somewhere else .... a shame

Beer is ok. Had the meat cake. To this day it is not clear to me whether it was meat and if so, what kind of meat. It was so finely shredded that it no longer had any structure. Not my taste.

Delicious, quaint and great service. Everyone should be aware that you work up a sweat when you are a boozer on a hot day. But otherwise nothing to complain about. Would love to come back.

This one is a little smaller inside, but the atmosphere is great (plus there's a fireplace). Cosy. They have great beers which you can also get in 1 liter mugs (Maß) if you want.

Great restaurant located in Erlangen. Great food and atmosphere. The bratwurst and sauerkraut were delicious. Very good menu selections. I would definitely recommend this place.

This place is rather focussed on displaying traditional german / franconian cuisine to business travellers esp. from Siemens than on the inbred. Check the opening hours and it will be clear ... :-) If you do not have a lot of time and don't want to run round the coutryside, then this is a great place, if you wanna see a real franconian wirtshaus at normal prices I'd rather recommend going out of town.

RUDEST experience ever. If you want your evening ruined if you book a table for 8:30pm on a Friday,, get ready: After booking a table for a special evening with a (quite celebrity) guest having flown in from abroad, to enjoy a nice Erlangen/Frankonian special food evening after getting off the plane at Nürnberg, I was told that I had booked for outside but with a grimace I could either sit in the rain or "sit in the less attractive area of the restaurant" as it was raining. When you ask for a nicer table in the area where there are lots of empty tables, you then get asked three times "if you are going to order soon or what" with the most annoyed face and there was no warmth at all. If you bring someone from the UK or USA here, they will have the worst first impression of Erlangen and Germany in general. Food was okay-ish but this memory makes me ashamed of where I live, and my corporate guest was shocked by the lack of welcome. If staff wants to go home at 9pm although there are bookings during that time, or if staff maybe doesn't like people who speak English, they can communicate this kindly and warn ahead of time, when a booking is made. The only nice person there was a lovely young chap who put my steak back on the grill to make it more well-done as I am pregnant. HE had a smile on his face, the only one among all the staff, he was accommodating (Thank you!), and without him being so nice I would have probably left and lost all hope for gastronomy in this town. I would only come back here for a beer in the garden if I was allowed to order one without anyone making me feel like I am a bother and if anyone actually had some friendly hospitality to share.

Insider tip from a friend, the mixed grill platter was a joy to experience. Atmosphere is also good, but this dish would have been great anywhere. The salads complemented the meats beautifully. A clear recommendation!

Very nice atmosphere, the restaurant offers regional classics to eat and drink. Highlight: sausages from grill with the grill located in the middle of dining area. Very friendly service.
